Program Officer

We partner with government and private capital to deliver programs and services that include community recreation, adventure, and stadium sports, camping, learn to swim, children's programs, early learning, youth services, retirement living, disability services and social enterprises.

About the Centre

The YMCA Camp Manyung is a Recreation Camp located in Mt. Eliza on the Mornington Peninsula, 50 km south of Melbourne. The Camp is situated 300m from the Port Philip Bay foreshore. The surrounding environment is semi-rural/residential. Camp Manyung accommodates up to 160 people and operates all year.

The Camp is owned by the State Government of Victoria and managed by YMCA Victoria, under a 15-year lease that concludes in the year 2020.

Key Elements of the Role

As a program officer, you will be multi-skilled and capable of undertaking duties in other areas within the camp operations outside the program when required e.g. assist with duties in the areas of light cleaning and maintenance at the changeover of groups.

Most importantly, as part of a small staff team, the Program leader will have a commitment to YMCA values (respect, responsibility, caring, and honesty) and act as an excellent role model for children and young people attending camp.

Knowledge and Experience
  • Experience in the delivery of outdoor recreation programs involving young people in residential camping or journey-based program setting.
  • Demonstrated group leadership experience.
  • Organisation and planning skills
Qualifications and/or Licences
  • CPR, Level 2 First Aid or Wilderness 1st Aid
  • Studied or currently studying a Certificate 4 in Outdoor Recreation or equivalent as a minimum Tertiary qualification is required or equivalent.
  • Current Manual Drivers License
  • One of the three certificates listed below
  • Life-Saving Victoria Community Surf Bronze Award
  • Certified High and Low Ropes Conductor/Supervisor  
  • Level 1 Flat Water Canoe or Kayak Award

Mandatory Pre-Requisite Qualifications
  • First Aid
  • CPR
  • Completed or currently studying a relevant Tertiary Qualification (Physical, Outdoor, Environmental Education) or Certificate IV Outdoor Recreation
  • Current manual drivers license
Desirable Qualifications
  • Certified High Ropes Conductor
  • Level 1 Flat Water Canoe or Kayak
  • Snorkeling Instructor's award
  • Surf Life Saving Community Bronze Award
  •  A national criminal history check;
  •  An international criminal history check where applicants have worked overseas;
  •  Holding or obtaining a Working with Children Clearance/ equivalent in accordance with state/ territory laws;
  • ACF Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)
  • Two reference checks.

Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
