Outdoor Education Staff - Group Leaders

Somerset is recruiting experienced, enthusiastic and passionate Outdoor Leaders, to join our fulltime team in 2020, we are also keen to increase our Casual team.

Staff will be employed from our Base in the Colo Valley, bordered by the pristine Colo River & magnificent Wollemi National Park - 1 hour out of Sydney & Blue Mountains.

Somerset has over 30 years of experience in conducting Journey Based School Camps. This wealth of expertise means our camps are a safe, fun and rewarding way for students to challenge themselves.

School programs operate year-round from Somerset base camp of 400 acres, and utilise our network of campsites over 50 kms of the valley, as well as the adjoining Wollemi National Park.

Somerset is delighted to be industry leaders and offer a range of remarkable salary packages with commitments from permanent positions through to casual blocks & freelance work. All positions include the option of low-cost on-site accommodation if required.

Position Description:
  • At Somerset Group Leaders fundamental role is to provide a rewarding and safe Outdoor Education experience to all participants who attend Camp Somerset’s programs.
  • Group Leaders are responsible for the leadership of groups, moving with the same group of students, as well as a visiting teacher for the duration of each program, fostering a positive, inclusive, safe and fun environment.
  • Groups complete a range of activities including Rock Climbing, Abseiling, Team Building Activities, and Ropes Course etc, whilst completing a journey between campsites via canoe or bushwalk.
  • All groups in the field are supported 24/7 by an on-site Program Coordinator, Logistics, Hospitality and Estate teams.
Employment Requirements:
  • Certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation or equivalent, with a minimum 1 year in the field.
    • Qualifications in Bushwalking, Flat Water Canoeing & Roping essential.
  • Program Support & Logistic Support positions with Certificate III are also available.
  • Current Australian Wilderness or Remote 1st Aid Certificate.
  • NSW Working with Children’s Check required.
  • Must enjoy working in a positive and professional team environment.
