Program Coordinator

About the Centre

Anglesea Recreation Camp is situated on the Great Ocean Road within a 1.5hr drive of Melbourne and within easy reach of the magnificent surf coast beaches. The camp provides a high standard of accommodation, catering and programming opportunities for up to 148 people all year round, utilising both on-site adventure-based activities and off-site activities using local natural resources e.g. Anglesea Main Beach, Pt Roadknight, Anglesea River and Coogoorah Park.  Our core work is in the delivery of residential outdoor education camping programs to Primary and Secondary School groups during each school term (40 weeks of the year) and providing camping experiences to a variety of community, sporting/recreation, family and cultural groups during the school holidays and over weekends.

Key Elements of the Role

The Program Coordinator is responsible for the continual review of programs and activities to ensure identified outcomes are being delivered. You will be required to maintain accurate staff training records and respond to client requests in a timely manner. Staff rostering, daily logistics and program development are key pillars of the position. The Program Coordinator keeps our cyclic maintenance schedule to ensure all activity equipment functions to a high standard and meets industry compliance.

Knowledge and Experience

  • Act as YMCA Leader/Program Champion and clearly articulate the YMCA philosophy and culture
  • Possess industry knowledge (Adventure Activity Standards, Department of Education Guidelines) and level of proficiency in the area of outdoor adventure activities
  • Experience in the coordination and facilitation of recreation or outdoor education programs involving young people in residential camping or journey-based program setting
  • Demonstrated organisation and planning skills

Personal Attributes

  • Excellent problem solving and organisational skills
  • Able to work as part of a large staff team
  • Demonstrates professionalism at all times

Other Duties

  • Cooperate with the YMCA by adhering to the organisation's various policies, procedures, work practices and standard operating procedures.
  • Continual review of programs and activities to ensure identified outcomes are being delivered
  • Update existing programs and develop new programs in accordance with objectives outlined in the Camp's Business Plan
  • Contribute to the creation of the camp's aspiration to design fully inclusive programs and activities that aim to enable all campers (regardless of their ability, age or cultural background), to fully and equally participate in their camp program
  • Responsible for supervising & directing full-time and casual program staff and coordinating daily program schedule
  • Leading the program team in the facilitation of camp programs that meet the desired outcomes of each unique group of campers
  • Training and induction of full/time & casual program staff in line with YMCA policies and procedures
  • Through your leadership, make a significant contribution to the creation of a positive, inclusive and safe staff culture

Mandatory Pre-Requisite Qualifications

The successful candidate requires experience and demonstrated knowledge, skills and abilities in the following:

Highly developed

  • Risk Management;
  • Property / facility stewardship and asset management including; Interpersonal skills and ability to relate to staff and clients from diverse backgrounds;
  • Written and verbal communication skills;
  • Problem solving skills and a proven capacity for ‘getting the job done
  • Professionalism and integrity;

Additional YMCA Provided Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Outdoor Education or Outdoor Recreation
  • TAFE level certification in recreation/sports administration or related field or relevant experience
  • Level 2 First Aid
  • Working with Children’s Check (WWCC)
  • Current Driver’s License

Highly Desirable Qualifications (Minimum of 2)

  • Certificate IV in Training and Assessment or Teaching degree an advantage
  • Life Saving Victoria Community Bronze Award
  • Bike Education Instructor Award
  • Certified High Ropes Supervisors Award
  • Certified High Ropes Conductor Award
  • Level 1 Flat Water Canoe or Kayak Award

  • ACF Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)
  • Two reference checks.
