Cleaner/Kitchen Assistant

We partner with government and private capital to deliver programs and services that include community recreation, adventure and stadium sports, camping, learn to swim, children's programs, early learning, youth services, retirement living, disability services and social enterprises.

About the Centre

Located at 1293m ASL we are the only YMCA site above the snowline in Australia. Operating most of the year as a school camp, in winter we change our program slightly to host both schools and the public to offer them snow/ DH ski/ Snowboard and XC skiing experiences.

2 staff houses allow our winter to be onsite and within a 4.8km drive to the ski slopes including discounted season resort entry.

Key Elements of the Role

A unique opportunity for something different for up to 15 weeks. The position supports staff wanting to be close to the ski fields and either as your first season on snow or a veteran snow bunny, you will work up to 5 days per week with 2 full days off. Split shifts on some days. Staff accommodation available in a shared house.

Operating from Mid June through to Mid to Late September 2021.

Selection Criteria

Capabilities and Behaviours

  • Take pride with a fine attention to detail and a preparedness to thoroughly complete tasks;
  • Work independently and as part of a team;
  • Flexibility to respond to 'changing circumstances' in an isolated facility; and
  • Capacity to be friendly and hospitable to guests. 

Knowledge and Experience

  • Though not mandatory, experience in cleaning and/or kitchen work will be favourably regarded;
  • Knowledge of work in an accommodation facility will be advantageous; and
  • Experience in the alpine environment. 

Mandatory Pre-Requisite Qualifications

  • Level One Food Handling;
  • Level 2 First Aid
  • Working with Children; and
  • ACF SCYP Certificate (gained once employed)

  • a national criminal history check;
  • an international criminal history check where applicants have worked overseas;
  • holding or obtaining a Working with Children Clearance/ equivalent in accordance with state/ territory laws;
  • ACF Safeguarding Children and Young People Certificate (completion online prior to commencement)
  • Two reference checks.

Any successfully appointed applicant will be required to adhere to the Safeguarding Children and Young People framework, which includes a thorough safeguarding children and young people induction and committing to upholding the safety and wellbeing of children and young people throughout their engagement with YMCA.
