About the program

The Outdoor Experience (TOE) program facilitates change in the lives of participants by encouraging and assisting young people with substance related issues to challenge themselves through therapeutic bush adventure activities and journeys.

The therapeutic component encourages and gives opportunity for young people to make meaning from their experiences on the activities/journeys and find ways to incorporate change into their everyday lives.

The Outdoor Experience works collaboratively with agencies and the support networks of young people who participate, tailoring experiences and programs towards the aims of the young person and the referring agency.

About the role

Based at The Bush Hut in Kew, the role primarily focuses on outdoor education. Reporting to the Coordinator, you will work closely to engage young people and agencies, in meaningful, safe and appropriate therapeutic adventure activities and journeys.

With demonstrated experience in leading outdoor programs in safe and effective ways you will be familiar with framework around working with vulnerable young people.

You will have the ability to build rapport with a range of people from various backgrounds together with experience in delivering high quality service to participants, their families/carers, other service users and referring agencies.

This is a part time (0.6 EFT) position, catering for day programs and some multi-day journeys to remote areas.

About you

This role will suit a candidate with the following qualifications, skills and experience:

  • Valid Working With Children Check or willing to obtain
  • Wilderness First Aid or equivalent
  • Current Drivers Licence
  • Flatwater Canoe Guide is preferable
  • Experience working with vulnerable young people utilising adventure based activities.
  • Willingness to undergo a Police check

A base salary of $71,017 per annum (pro rata) is offered, plus salary packaging, together with ongoing professional and career development.
