Southbound Adventures is a small, family-owned Outdoor Education company with over 30 years of experience delivering exceptional Outdoor Education experiences to school students from kindergarten through to Year 12, with our core focusing being Years 7 to 10. We specialise in Bronze, Silver, and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journeys, particularly Gold expeditions on the Overland Track in Tasmania!

As our Human Resources Manager, you will be a key member in our Leadership team. You will work closely alongside our highly experienced management team. You will manage our permanent and casual team to ensure effective utilisation of staff in the preparation and delivery of programs. You will foster an atmosphere of mutual support and encouragement to ensure that all employees meet their full potential. You will play a role in providing a stimulating, diverse and meaningful environment in which team members can grow. 

As a Program Director you will manage a small team of Outdoor Educators and effectively facilitate and deliver Outdoor Education Programs for students aged between 7-18. On any given day you will find yourself managing logistics, liaising with clients, mentoring team members, snapping shots of memorable moments or building trust with a student before they take the leap down the flying fox.

About You
  • Prior experience in staff management and rostering
  • Experience in leading a diverse team of staff
  • Highly organised and motivated with ability to prioritise and manage work time efficiently
  • An effective communicator with team members, teachers, parents, and students
  • An innovative, solutions focused problem solver
  • An ability to manage an Outdoor Education program
  • A passion for working with young people in the Outdoors
  • An ability to inspire students and other team members
  • An enthusiastic attitude to your life and work
Applicant requirements:
  • Current driver’s license or the ability to obtain one
  • A certificate IV in Outdoor Recreation or equivalent
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in the Outdoor Education Industry or equivalent relevant experience
  • A wilderness first aid or equivalent
  • Paid NSW WWCC and National Police check, or willingness to obtain

Workload: Fulltime Load (5 days per week averaged over 26 weeks) The role combines office and field components and will include working on site based and wilderness programs.

Location: Primarily based at our headquarters in Albion Park, NSW, with field work at varying locations generally within 2 hours drive of the office. 

This role includes:

  • Social Team activities throughout the year, including our Senior Team Day tradition (in 2023, we flew the permanent team to the Gold Coast for an adventure day, last year we climbed the Sydney Harbour Bridge!).

  • Your Wilderness First Aid recert paid for.
  • All meals and accommodation whilst on program
  • A Wilderness First Aid kit for use on program, maintained by Southbound.
  • Team clothing package. (SPF50+)
  • Accrue Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) that can be used to take paid days off. 
  • Additionally, earn 2 hours overtime per overnight at the applicable overtime rate.

Salary From: $75,000 – $90,000 plus leave loading, field loading, penalty rates, phone allowance and superannuation
