Field Operations Manager

Higher Ground Group is looking for an optimistic, forward-thinking yet practical individual to assist us in “creating the freedom to learn” for thousands of young people each year. 

Based in the Sunshine Coast Hinterland Queensland our programs operate in a variety of locations including our two Experiential Learning Centres and many of the surrounding national parks. This senior position is chartered with leading and developing our core staff in the delivery of world-class programs.

Areas of responsibility 
Staff Management   
  • Support, Mentor and develop each member of the Operational Team  
  • Manage Full Time staff through rostering, toil (Forecasting forward) and wellbeing  
  • Populate Roster with full time staff and regular casual pool  
  • Recruit full time and casual staff for operational needs  
  • Manage Role development within the organisation  
  • Continue to lead by example as a leader within the team  
Program Management  
  • Program Development while managing contextual flow of each individual line and logistics to ensure program lines meet outcomes 
  • Prepare for Program Delivery   
  • Work closely with the Client Relationships Manager to ensure program development and preparations meet client requests and requirements 
  • Run information days with the students at schools 
  • Handover programs to Coordinator’s for delivery in the week leading up to programs   
  • Manage program related paperwork for efficient operations, packing lists, program checklists, peer feedback etc   
  • Work creatively on proposals for new clients alongside the Business Development team 
  • Coordinate Programs as required  
  • Manage Rites of Passage program  
Staff development and Training   
  • Develop and implement a careers pathway including an appraisal process for full time staff  
  • Organise infield appraisals of full-time staff 
  • Work with CEO/ Business Manager to develop Induction and Training process for new staff  
  • Organise Inductions and training for new staff 
Health, Safety and Risk Management  
  • Manage safety standards of all aspects of Operations  
  • Manage SOPs, ensuring they are relevant and in line with governing and industry standards   
  • Manage Activity Files for High Impact activities  
  • Remain up to date on local and federal WHS standards and HGGs compliance to those standards   
  • Manage the Emergency Management Procedure including large incident response plan  
  • Manage Incident systems and paperwork; In field Incident reporting paperwork and related systems to managing and report incidents, Online Incident register for archiving purposes, UPLOADS \ 
  • Manage large Incidents where required in line with the Emergency Management Procedures  
  • Incident analysis   
  • Manage Operational Budget   
  • Manage the budget of all aspects of operations including but not limited to staffing, equipment and projects  
What we are looking for 
  • A passionate and experienced outdoor educator
  • An optimistic, forward-thinking yet practical individual
  • Strong initiative and ingenuity 
  • Experience in Program, Staff and Risk Management as a minimum (as described above)
  • COVID 19 vaccination
  • CPR and Wilderness First Aid
  • Manual Drivers licence 
  • MR and boat licence advantageous 
  • Qualifications in Outdoor Recreation/ Education advantageous

  • This leadership role has a salary range of 70k – 80k (+ Super) depending on skills, experience, and qualifications.
