About the program

The Outdoor Experience (TOE) program facilitates change in the lives of young people with substance misuse, mental health issues, and/or trauma by encouraging and assisting them to challenge themselves through therapeutic bush adventure activities and journeys.

The Outdoor Experience works collaboratively with each young person to develop a relationship of trust as the basis for an intentional outdoor education program designed to meet their specific needs. The Filed Educator liaises closely with young people’s support services and networks, tailoring experiences and programs towards the aims of the young person and the referring agency.

The therapeutic component encourages and gives opportunity for young people to make meaning from their experiences on the activities/journeys and find ways to incorporate change into their everyday lives.

About the role

Based at The Bush Hut in Kew, the role primarily focuses on developing and delivering outdoor education programs. Reporting to the Coordinator, you will work closely to engage young people and supporting agencies, in meaningful, safe and appropriate therapeutic adventure activities and journeys.

You will have the ability to build rapport with a range of people from various backgrounds together with experience in delivering high quality services to young people, their families/carers, other service users and referring agencies.

This is a part time (0.6 EFT) position, focussing mainly on developing and facilitating intentional and individually tailored day programs and the occasional multi-day journey to remote areas.
