What does Red Earth do?

Red Earth is a social enterprise, partnered with Traditional Owners in four remote regions of the country - Cape York, Central Australia, Arnhem Land and the Top End, and Lake Mungo. We prepare our partner families and communities to host groups on their land, and on their terms. Red Earth believes these unique experiences lead to meaningful connections, and can truly open the hearts of others to the importance of country, Indigenous culture and traditional ways of life. Groups spend 10 days doing cultural activities, contributing to a project on a homeland, visiting sacred sites and having a yarn around the campfire with the land’s first custodians.

What will you be doing as a Leader with Red Earth?

The Red Earth vision sees young people from cities deeply connecting with Traditional Owners. We know that careful planning and skilled facilitation are needed to make these magical moments happen, and that is where our Red Earth Leaders come in. As a Leader, you will be the bridge between the school and the Traditional Owners, making sure the relationships can grow by ensuring everything else is looked after. This includes:

  • Liaising with Traditional Owners to organise activities during the immersion
  • Ensuring all activity equipment is present, so the sessions run seamlessly
  • Providing first aid and emergency support for the group
  • Assisting with the management of food
  • Organising and managing camping equipment
  • Facilitating reflections each day
