Technical Instructor

ROLE PURPOSE

Support facilitation team to deliver fun, safe adventure activities that require accredited technical qualification/s.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Core objectives include:

  • Facilitate an excellent program experience to all AW clients on technical adventure activities
  • Manage the safety and risks associated with delivering technical activities
  • Facilitate all activities in alignment with AW policies, risk management strategies and standard operating procedures
  • Commit to the continual refreshing of qualifications and adventure activity delivery knowledge
  • Quickly and effectively develop positive relationships with clients and participants

QUALIFICATIONS

Required:

  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Manual ‘C’ Class Driver’s License
  • Current Senior First Aid incl. CPR
  • Current Community Surf Rescue or Bronze Medallion
  • Youth Mental Health First Aid
  • Accredited ropes qualification (e.g. natural/artificial surface qualification)
  • Accredited water activity qualification (e.g. kayak, flat water, canoe)

Desirable:

  • Diploma or Cert. IV in Outdoor Recreation (or equivalent)
  • Further formal qualification in any of the following:
    • Bush Walking
    • Mountain Biking
    • Caving
    • High/Low Ropes
    • NORLS
EXPERIENCE
  • 12 months experience delivering adventure activities in chosen discipline
  • Experience leading highly technical outdoor experiences, such as expeditions and adventure activities
  • Experience organising, maintaining and repairing outdoor adventure equipment
KNOWLEDGE
  • Basic knowledge and understanding outcomes-focused outdoor adventure program delivery
  • Knowledge and understanding of best practice ways to manage and mitigate risk in the outdoors
  • Extensive knowledge of best-practice adventure activity equipment storage and maintenance
SKILLS & COMPETENCIES
  • Eye for Detail: excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Teamwork: willingness to assist and support others as required and get on with team members.
  • Resilient to Pressure: able to continue to deliver high quality work during high volume, high pressure peak periods.
  • Communication: exceptional communications skills and ability to help participants feel at ease in challenging situations.
