Southbound Adventures is a small, family-owned Outdoor Education company with over 30 years of experience delivering exceptional Outdoor Education experiences to school students from kindergarten through to Year 12, with our core focusing being Years 7 to 10. We specialise in Bronze, Silver, and Gold Duke of Edinburgh Adventurous Journeys, particularly Gold expeditions on the Overland Track in Tasmania!

Position Description:
Southbound Adventures are seeking individuals with a Certificate III in Outdoor Leadership or equivalent to join our team. As a CIV Outdoor Education Trainee, develop advanced skills and qualifications in outdoor leadership, risk management, and program facilitation. As a trainee, you will gain hands-on experience delivering outdoor education programs while working towards a Certificate IV in Outdoor Leadership. This role is ideal for individuals passionate about outdoor adventure and education, seeking to build a career in the industry.
Trainees should display an enthusiastic attitude toward their life and work, along with a desire to achieve beyond their expectations. They must demonstrate a strong commitment to completing their training and a passion for educating students in an outdoor environment. An understanding of the importance of time management, initiative, and self-organisation is essential, as is the ability to work effectively within a close-knit team.

In this role you would:
- Facilitate and assist in leading outdoor education programs, including hiking, canoeing, roping, and other adventure activities.
- Develop and apply risk management strategies to ensure participant safety.
- Lead small groups and progressively take on more responsibility in program delivery.
- Assist with logistics, program planning, and equipment management.
- Develop and refine instructional techniques under the guidance of experienced educators.
- Promote environmental stewardship and sustainable outdoor practices.
- Complete structured training, coursework, and assessments required for Certificate IV.
Applicants must hold or be willing to obtain:
- Must hold or currently be completing a Certificate III Outdoor Recreation or equivalent.
- Australian Citizenship or permanent residency or New Zealand citizen.
- Must be a minimum of 18 years of age.
- As part of our commitment to child safety applicants require a Paid NSW WWCC and National Police check
- First Aid & CPR certification or be willing to obtain
- Current driver’s license or the ability to obtain one

- Commitment to completing the Certificate IV traineeship.
- Strong time management, organisation, and problem-solving abilities.
- Good level of physical fitness and adaptability in outdoor environments.

- A Wilderness First Aid kit for use on program, maintained by Southbound.
- Accrue Time Off in Lieu (TOIL) that can be used to take paid days off.
- Additionally, earn 2 hours overtime per overnight at the applicable overtime rate
Base remuneration
As per the Miscellaneous Award, $43,215.50 per annum, inclusive of First Aid Allowance
- Plus Field and Weekend Loadings
- Plus TAFE fees covered by Southbound.
